07.12.13 | Texturing for Current and Next Gen Games – Normal Mapping

This Course Will Cover: 

Basics of Normal Mapping.

Normal/bump mapping theory and common usage.

Material setup and previewing in 3DSMax.

Normal map extraction in 3DSMax workflow.

High/Low poly cage projection.

Rendering geometry to normal maps from the Scanline.

Combining/enhancing normal maps in Photoshop.

Generating normal maps from height maps/photographs.

Normal map extraction in Mudbox workflow.

Display and rendering in a real-time engine.

Dedicated normal map extraction applications – an overview.

 

Participant Profile:

Participants should have a working knowledge of 3DSMax and Photoshop and be interested in game art. Laptops plus relevant software (3DS Max and Photoshop – trial or full versions) are required.

Tutor Info:

Pete Mc Nally is a Technical Artist with Havok, an Emmy award-winning games technology company in Dublin. He has also been a 3D Supervisor in the Commercials department of twice Oscar nominated Brown Bag Films and Lead Artist at Torc Interactive/Instinct Technology. Pete has over ten years experience in the Irish games industry and has been involved with game art since the beginning of his career.
