The course will cover the basics of Cel Action and how to build on those, as listed below.

Basics of Cel Action

  1. Select elements, moving, rotating, dope-sheet manipulations, key frames, onion skins, previewing
  2. Moving around a scene
  3. Using the camera

Building on the Basics

  1. Making changes to existing animation, using the extended dopesheet, masking
  2. Introduction to display orders
  3. Using attachment links
  4. Animation re-use
  5. Workflow principles
  6. Introduction to using FX within CelAction
  7. Using the manager level

Participant Profile

Participants should have animation skills and a good knowledge of the principles of animation.

Tutor Info

Christian Chessell started in the animation business in 1996 as a traditional animator, working on Candy Guard’s acclaimed series Pond Life at a studio called Telemagination. He left in 1998 to begin work with Mark Baker and Neville Astley on their series The Big Knights. This series was the first production to use the software CelAction 2D, a software Christian has been heavily involved with up to the present day working on such productions as 2DTV, Yoko! Jakamoko! Toto!, I Am Not An Animal! The Secret Show, Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom, Charlie and Lola and Peppa Pig, in roles ranging from Animator, Lead Animator to Animation Director.
