23/08/14 | Graphic Design for Film, TV and Animation

Course Content:

Most people assume that a film graphic designer is responsible for the titles and the poster, but there’s a whole other world of design for film in which all the graphic props need to be created for the actors to work with on set. Telegrams, love letters, prison escape maps, fingerprint samples, and antique cigarette packaging are all designed to suit the story’s genre, period, and visual aesthetic. Fresh from The Grand Budapest Hotel, Dublin-based designer Annie Atkins will take us through her working process on a film set, from compiling a script breakdown, to researching graphics from other eras, right through to the creation and ageing of a convincing antique document to be used on set.

Participant Profile:

This workshop is aimed at creatives who are interested in working as graphic designer for Film, TV and Animation.

Participants should have some ability, experience or interest in graphic design and storytelling, and will be working with potentially messy materials – so wearing old clothes is advised.
