The Bridge Programme 2015 – Call For Applicants

bridge logo bar In 2013 it was proposed by DublinBIC that a project or initiative could be created that would address or ‘Bridge’ the skills gap evident in the Games, Animation and VFX sectors between what education provides and what the corresponding industry demands. THE BRIDGE is an intensive 8 week programme that aims to create “Industry Ready” participants who have experience of the culture of business and the expectation of the delivery of outputs. These participants “fit” quicker into a studio environment and begin to produce commercial work faster. The studios involved in the Bridge programme in previous years include Brown Bag Films, Havok, Riot Games, Jam Media, Piranhabar, Windmill Lane VFX, Treehouse Republic, Zinc Films and Pink Kong Studios. 80% of the Bridge participants to date have secured full time or contract work in the animation, vfx, games and related industries while others have continued on to further studies at third level. Check out our video from the Bridge Programme 2014 presentation here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iw7YPLzgTIA And a write up on the success of the Bridge Programme 2014 can be found here: http://www.awn.com/news/bridge-delivers-industry-ready-uk-talent The Bridge Programme 2015: It is proposed that between 25-30 participants will be selected for the 2015 programme. Participants must be either recent graduates from Animation, Games and VFX related courses or older graduates who are not working at the moment and who are trying to break into the industry. Participants will be placed in participating studios for the 8 weeks and will receive both on-the-job training and additional training through Animation Skillnet and Screen Training Ireland. The programme will take place over 8 weeks between June and August and will be supervised by Richard Glynn, CEO and Producer at Studio POWWOW in conjunction with Animation Skillnet, Screen Training Ireland, the GEC & Dublin BIC. Key Benefits of ‘The Bridge’:
  • Participants will either be placed in participating studios or will be provided with studio space in a professional environment in the GEC for 8 weeks.
  • Participants will get to work on live projects supervised and mentored by studio professionals (example from the 2013 Bridge programme – short film by Brown Bag Films called ‘Anya’ – http://www.brownbagfilms.com/labs/entry/anya-shortfilm).
  • Participants will get to work on professional, collaborative projects across animation, games and/or VFX.
  • Participants will have the opportunity to participate in specialised training sessions with industry professionals through Animation Skillnet and Screen Training Ireland for no additional cost.
  • Participants can remain on social welfare over the course of the 8 weeks (40 days) but they must get approval from their social welfare office in advance.
  • Participants will receive an additional nominal bursary amount to cover out-of-pocket expenses over the 8 weeks.
Applications: Applications from recent graduates or unemployed graduates from animation, games and VFX related courses who wish to participate in ‘The Bridge’ 2015 should be sent to animationskillnet@dublinbic.ie by Friday 29th May. Applications must include a CV and a link to an online showreel and/or portfolio. Please let us know when applying if you are interested in the ‘Placement Abroad’ option as well. Selected applicants will be called for interview in June. The Bridge initiative is funded through Skillnets Job Seekers Support Programme.
