22.09.14 | Gesture Drawing for Animation (5 Monday Evenings)

This 5-week course is designed to show the importance of gesture drawing in animation. The focus will be on capturing the essence of a pose, expression of the figure and the use of graphic principles to create dynamic drawings.

This Course Will Cover:

  • Week 1: Lines of Action, Rhythm and Exaggeration.
  • Week 2: Shape – Abstracting the Pose.
  • Week 3: Angles – Flexibility in a Pose.
  • Week 4: Contrast – Straight & Curved Lines.
  • Week 5: Context – Interpretation of a Pose.

Participant Profile:

This course is aimed at individuals interested in studying animation and professionals working in the industry. Participants should have some life drawing experience.

Tutor Info:

Niall Laverty has worked in the animation industry for over 15 years in the U.S.A., Germany and Ireland. His credits include Anastasia, Titan A.E. and award-winning short, Hasan Everywhere. Niall has been teaching gesture drawing to animation students and professionals for over 10 years. Classes are based on his experience as a freelance animator and illustrator.
