03.08.21 | Building A Submission-Ready 2D Animation Showreel (10 Tuesday evenings)

Animation Skillnet and Screen Skills Ireland are delighted to announce this new in-depth 10 week course, which was created to help Animation, Games and VFX artists to get their showreel polished and ready to submit to studios or clients.

This course will help you gain a greater understanding of what makes a knockout 2D character animator’s reel, as well as providing an insight into the animation studio and the professional production pipeline. 

Kyla will offer guidance and advice to help you identify strengths and weaknesses and enable you to build a more confident showreel. She will be sharing tips and tricks on the process of applying, industry networking and maintaining a work/life balance.

About the tutor

Working mainly in TV production as a 2D character animator, Kyla has worked on several high end projects for CBeebies, CBBC, Disney XD, Warner Bros and Netflix, including Oscar nominated film, “The Illusionist”.

Kyla currently works part-time at multi-award winning studio Boulder Media and also teaches with Pulse College.

Participant profile

Recent graduates, free-lancers or artists who want to apply to studios or clients but feel like they could use a bit of guidance on how to present themselves and their work in the best possible light, or simply want to refresh their portfolio. Please note that, as this is a programme funded under the Skills Connect scheme, priority will be given to applicants who are currently out of work.

System requirements needed for the course

Courses will be taking place using a virtual classroom app. Participants will need to have a good internet connection and a device with Audio, Webcam and Microphone for live chat sessions and feedback.

Dates and Times

10 Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 8.30pm:

  • 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st of August
  • 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th of September
  • 5th of October – Last Class

Cost

There is no fee for this course but please note that places are limited.

Application Procedure

Please note that applicants must have a current, valid address in the Republic of Ireland in order to be considered for this course. Successful candidates will be invited to interview between the 20th and 22nd of July (online)
