08.03.14 | Storyboards – Why, When & How To Use Them (1 Day)

This Course Will Cover:

The use of storyboards to visualise a story from a script or written plot from plotting, to using the camera, to action and acting. Focussing mostly on animation it will also touch on live action and other media that use storyboards. A discussion through comparative case studies explaining the freeform approach that is feature storyboarding versus the script driven approach of series will form the first half of the day. The second half will compare the traditional methods versus the digital and attempt to explain the nature of storyboarding in the current production climate.

Participant Profile:

Participants should have some ability, experience or interest in animation, storytelling through pictures, drawing and/or art department in live-action, game design and other media.

Tutor Info:

Paul J. Bolger has over 25 years experience in the international film industry as a designer, animator and writer/director. He has worked with such animation greats as Don Bluth (All Dogs Go To Heaven), Richard Williams (The Thief & The Cobbler) and Ralph Bakshi (Cool World). Paul is currently developing and producing a slate of various film and other projects through his company PillarStone Productions. He also provides Storyboarding, Design and Direction services to producers and studios worldwide. His most recent clients include Aardman Animation and Brown Bag Films.
