This Course Will Cover:

Audience Awareness: knowing and understanding who you write for, the two most important concepts when writing for young children, and how to better engage preschool kids.

Character: How to create and write appealing characters that children relate to, working with group dynamics.

Story: Story aims and essentials. Tips for generating new stories, structure and the writing process.

Business: Writing for someone else, working with an editor, handling notes, when to push and when to be flexible, how to impress, tips for creating your own show.

Lessons from History and Research: what we can learn from children’s TV history and how to find out more.

 

Participant Profile:

This workshop is aimed at both established and new writers and developers who are interested in writing and developing content professionally for children aged 6 or under.

Tutor Info:

Jason Tammemägi is an independent children’s media specialist whose work has been enjoyed by children worldwide. He has written over 100 broadcast stories and created the hit preschool shows FLUFFY GARDENS and PLANET COSMO. Jason has directed 25 hours of children’s programming including ROOBARB & CUSTARD TOO and, as former Creative Director of Geronimo Productions (Monster Animation), oversaw the creative vision, served as script editor and creative director on PUNKY and worked with writers on concept development to take shows from idea all the way to screen.
