Animation Skillnet is delighted to partner with Screen Skills Ireland, Animation Ireland and Ability Focus to offer Disability Awareness Training for the Animation Sector.

The purpose of Disability Awareness training is to educate participants around core and non core aspects of disability and disability related issues, thus giving greater confidence when it comes to representation in designing and developing film, TV, animation games and VFX. 

This training aims to address myths and misconceptions that people may have around disability, focus on non-visual disabilities, appropriate language, types of disabilities, legislation, disability etiquette, discrimination and creating an inclusive society.

The programme is instructor led training and delivered via 4 x 1-hour live online sessions on an interactive basis. 

Modules include:

  • Introduction to Disability Awareness Training
  • Module 1: Definition of disability
  • Module 2: The seven categories of disability
  • Module 3: Disability and Irish society
  • Module 4: Legislation & reasonable accommodation
  • Module 5: Communication
  • Module 6: Creating an inclusive society

In August 2020, the Ability Focus ‘Live Online (Remote) Disability Awareness Training Programme received an Endorsement Award from the Irish Institute of Training & Development (IITD) for ‘excellence, best practice and innovation’ in the field of Learning & Development. This is the first of its kind in Ireland to be awarded to a remote disability awareness training programme. 

Tutor: Stephen Kelly

Stephen Kelly is an experienced Disability Employment Specialist, having worked for over fifteen years in public and private sectors. He has trained Government departments, public bodies, large multinationals and SME’s in Disability Awareness. 

He advises organisations on matters relating to disability employment and has worked directly with people with disabilities as a Disability Employment Facilitator, Company Coordinator and Advocacy Case Manager in previous roles. He has a BA degree in Law & Economics, an LL.B. postgraduate degree in Law and a postgraduate diploma in Public Relations. He also has qualifications in Disability Awareness.

Participant Profile: This course is aimed at Heads of Departments, HR staff, Managers and Team Leaders, in the Animation, VFX and Games industries that are leading teams both on site/set and remotely.
