07.07.21 | Building A Submission-Ready Design Portfolio (10 Wednesday evenings)

Animation Skillnet and Screen Skills Ireland are delighted to welcome back Kirsten Shiel for this in-depth 10 week course, which was created to help Animation, Games and VFX artists to get their portfolio polished and ready to submit to studios or clients.

Course Information

Kirsten Shiel is currently an art director at Brown Bag Films and has hired and led full design teams both in Dublin and Manchester for 2D and 3D projects. She will share some tips and tricks and guide you through the following topics:

  • Character Design
  • Environment Design
  • Visual Development and Concept Art
  • Colour and Lighting
  • Social Media and Online Presence
  • Interviews and Studio Tests
  • Organisation and Presentation of your Portfolio

About the tutor

Kirsten Shiel has been working in the animation industry on both 2D and 3D projects for Disney, Apple, Nickelodeon, NBC Universal and Netflix as a background artist, a character designer, a concept artist, and now an art director at Brown Bag Films Dublin.

She is also an award winning illustrator who has worked for clients like the BBC, Microsoft, Aer Lingus and John West Tuna.

Participant profile

Recent graduates, free-lancers or artists who want to apply to studios or clients but feel like they could use a bit of guidance on how to present themselves and their work in the best possible light, or simply want to refresh their portfolio.

System requirements needed for the course

Courses will be taking place using the Zoom App. Participants will need to have a good internet connection and a device with Audio, Webcam and Microphone for live chat sessions and feedback.

Dates and Times

10 Wednesday evenings from 6pm-7.30pm:

  • on 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th of July,
  • 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th of August,
  • 1st and 8th of September.

Cost

There is no fee for this course but please note that there are only 12 places available.
